Valerie B. Laing

Valerie B. LaingDr. Laing provides Mohs surgery, a specialized approach to removing skin cancers. This technique achieves the highest cure rates possible while conserving healthy tissue and providing for a smaller scar.

Dr. Laing completed a three year residency in dermatology at UNC Hospitals and then undertook a year long intensive fellowship in Mohs Surgery and cutaneous oncology at University Associates in Louisville, Ky. under a protégé of Dr. Fred Mohs himself.

Following training, Dr. Laing returned to North Carolina and founded the Mohs surgery unit at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Her easy going personality and compassionate care earned her a stellar reputation and loyal following of patients.

She has practiced dermatology and Mohs surgery since 1993 and was the first Mohs surgeon in Eastern North Carolina. She continues to be actively involved in teaching dermatologic surgery to resident physicians.

Dr. Laing is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery.

Dr. Laing recently moved to Downtown Raleigh where she, her husband and children are excited to be a part of the downtown revival. In her free tim e she enjoys traveling, gardening and learning how to sail the family’s new Catalina sailboat, “Sunburn”, in anticipation of sailing around the world one day.
