Skin Cancer Surgery

Once a lesion is diagnosed as skin cancer, surgical excision is the most effective method of destruction. Once the specimen is excised it is analyzed by a Dermatopathologist to determine if the entire skin cancer was removed.

Mohs Surgery

Moh's surgery is a highly successful treatment for skin cancer done under local anesthesia in our surgery suite.

The surgeon begins by removing the visible portion of the tumor and recording it on a map of the affected site. The entire undersurface and edges of the specimen are made into microscopic slides, which the surgeon examines for residual tumor.Any residual tumor is mapped and then carefully removed. This process is repeated until the tumor has been completely removed. This method enables the surgeon to treat just the affected area while preserving as much normal skin as possible.

After completely removing the tumor, we will discuss with you how to close and treat the wound. The type of treatment depends on the area involved, the size and your input. Some wounds may require referral to a reconstructive surgeon.
